Local Low-Cost Spay and Neuter Resources:

Please hold on to this information and pass it on to anyone who could use it. Every single animal spayed or neutered helps!

If you are a Madera County resident and you or anyone in your family receives benefits from one of the following: SSI (Supplemental Security Income), Medi-Cal, WIC (Women, Infants, and Children), Food Stamps, or Unemployment, the Friends of The Madera Shelter has a program that provides low cost spay and neuter. A dog spay or neuter is $20, a cat spay or neuter is $15. To request a form, call (559) 664-8667 or call us (Sierra Cares) at (559) 683-1214 and leave your name and address. Once you receive the form, you send it and the $15 or $20 to the address on the form and they’ll send you a voucher that you use at certain vets. (If you can’t afford the full $15 or $20, read the last entry on this list as well).

The Eastern Madera County S.P.C.A. offers vouchers that take $22 off the cost of spaying a cat, and $12 off neutering a cat. They also have vouchers that reduce the cost of spaying or neutering a dog, with the reduction on a sliding scale based on weight. To receive a voucher, call 683-1266 and leave your name and address.

The Eastern Madera County S.P.C.A. has a program that will spay or neuter feral cats for free. BEFORE YOU TRAP THE FERAL CAT call 683-1266 and leave your name and number. You will be called with a client number and information about where to obtain a trap (most local vets require that you bring the cat in a trap obtained from them or the S.P.C.A). Once you have a client number and a trap, call a local vet and let them know you are trapping a feral cat. They will set an appointment time and you can then set out the trap. If you need help with trapping, feral cat trapping advice, or to borrow one of out traps, we’re glad to assist – call us at 683-1214.

Sierra Cares will help with spay/neuter costs if we have funding available and will also supplement the above programs to make low-cost spay/neuter even more available. We are in the process of applying for a grant to start a low cost spay/neuter program for our community.  Until then, we are entirely funded by donations.  Call us at (559) 683-1214 or email us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
